Supernatural - Song-to-Scene - 1B - Poll

With a result that shocked absolutely no one, Renegade won by 92% in our first song-to-scene poll. This will be one of the 3 to beat. While the others didn't quite reach that margin, they were decisive victories too. Proceeding to the second round are Renegade, Man in the Wilderness (54%), All Out of Love (61%), and Silent Lucidity (64%). The polls today should have similar results. Things won't start getting hard for most until the next round.

Below are links to the episodes in this contest (Contest Basics link) and a printable bracket if you want to see what your favorites will be facing. Also there are video clips of the scenes in today's polls. I could not find one for Chaos Surrounds You and my first attempt at video capture came out stuttery. If you have a video clip of it or can make one, please let me know so I can add it. I also need clips for White Rabbit (Hunted), Back on the Road Again (Born Under a Bad Sign), We Gotta Get Out of This Place (A Little Slice of Kevin), and House of the Rising Sun (Roadkill). I have clips ready for the following but they also include other scenes so if you have the music part just by itself I'd love to use those instead. Clips needed: Ode to Joy (Hunteri Heroici), All Right Now (Skin), Burnin' for You (Hell House), and Feel Alright (Citizen Fang).

Also, for a little bit of fun before hiatus ends, we are going to take nominations for the song that has not been played on Supernatural yet but that you think would fit well. Thanks to Dovile for bringing the subject up in the comments yesterday. The song I'm in Love with My Car by Queen is indeed perfect for SPN. My choice since Meg appeared in season 1 is You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi. Let's face it. Almost everyone gives love a bad name on this show. It might as well have been Ruby's theme song in seasons 3 and especially 4. So what would your choices be? You can nominate up to 5 songs. Please also mention what you nominated in the comments section and why. If you have a scene in which they would have be perfect add that in too. It could be fun to see what music SPN fans would have chosen in classic scenes. As always, comments are joy and pass the hiatus time quicker. Happy voting!

The song-to-scene contest is not a popularity contest per se.  It is about which song best fits which scene in tone and lyrics.  Unlike a favorite song or favorite scene contest, you could very well end up voting for a song and/or scene you don't like simply because it matches the best.  Ideally we are looking for a scene in which no other song could come even close to being as perfect.  We are looking for a song that could not be played in many different scenes in the series.  That one combination where the song and scene feel like they were completely in sync.  So think on your vast music knowledge and if you can think of several songs that would work in the scene, toss that choice out.  If you can think of several places where the song would work just as well or better in the series, toss that choice out too.  This contest only works if we let our episode and music prejudices go for 3 weeks.

Also previouslies, outtakes, gag reels, promos, etc. are NOT scenes and therefore do NOT count.  That cuts out Carry On Wayward Son completely, which has only been in the previouslies, the outtake of Jensen dancing to Eye of the Tiger (only the 30 seconds that were actually in the episode count), and the first part of Foreplay/Long Time, which started as a previously and segued into about 45 seconds of the actual episode.

Supernatural - Song-to-Scene - 1A - Poll

Welcome to the Best Supernatural Song-to-scene contest. Before we get started though, the winner of the Best SPN Episode Contest according to SpoilerTV voters was.....What is and What Should Never Be BY 1 VOTE!!! Talk about close. We've never had a finale so tight before or even close. Thanks to everyone who participated. However, the hiatus marches on so we do too. The song-to-scene contest is different than most polls so please read the following basics before voting. If you have questions, please post them in the comments below.

Basics:  PLEASE READ.

Now that we got the basics over, the contest mechanics are the same. 1 vote per IP address. Polls close at 8:00 pm CST. The scene with the most votes moves on to the next round. Comments are encouraged, especially since this one is likely to produce a lot of strong conversation, just remember that this community is known for being civil and anti-flame war. Let's keep it that way.

Below are links to a contest basics site with the ranking of each song-to-scene that made it into the contest as well as a bracket form if you want to play along or predict at home. There will also be links to videos of the scenes in the contest on that day if I could find one. If you know of a video of a scene I did not find, please let me know so I can include it. I apologize in advance for any of your favorite scenes I could not find.

Finally, I am postponing the 150 episode ranking articles. So sorry to everyone who is ready but this contest will take us right up to the midseason premiere and I do not have time to do them both at the same time. I plan to start it during the in-season spring hiatus if we have one this year. If not, it will be the very first thing we do in summer hiatus. So if you have not already finished your rankings, you have about 1.5 months to do so. No excuses to those of you who have skipped the middle episodes. :-P Also, if you are still reading this, thank you very much. I know it was a lot. Leave a comment below working in your favorite SPN episode and you will be entered into a special contest for a prize. Thanks for reading and as always, happy voting!

Supernatural - Best Title Finals - Poll

We've come to the final two episodes for Best Title after very close semifinals. Lazarus Rising defeated All Hell Breaks Loose by 2 votes. What is and What Should Never Be defeated Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester by 15 votes. This is the closest race we've had since this summer. So pass the word and happy voting!

Supernatural - Best Title - Round 3 - Polls

In a stunning turn of events, our Best Title contest has turned into a rehash of the Best Episode contest. All bets are off from here on out. Entering round 3 are All Hell Breaks Loose, Lazarus Rising, What is and What Should Never Be, and Are You There God? It's Me Dean Winchester. Definitely not the final four I imagined based on the nominations. This contest will last for 2 more days and then we will start the song-to-scene contest. Only 19 days left until the end of hiatus. Hope it is going smoothly and happy voting.

Supernatural - Best Title - Round 2 - Poll

It is round two in the Best Supernatural Episode Title contest and the following episodes are still in: The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo, All Hell Breaks Loose, Lazarus Rising, Dark Side of the Moon, What is and What Should Never Be, Live Free or Twihard, Are You There God? It's Me Dean Winchester, and The Monster at the End of This Book. Just a reminder - this contest has absolutely nothing to do with the content or quality of the episode. We are simply picking which title name we like best. So have fun and happy voting!

Supernatural - Best Episode Title - Round 1 - Poll

Welcome to the Best Supernatural Episode Title contest. This one is going to be short - merely a way to tide over the time until the song-to-scene contest is ready to go. Just a bit of clarification though since we did the nominations way back in August for this poll. Best episode title means exactly that - the best title. It in NO WAY takes into consideration the contents of the episode or whether that episode was any good or not. My favorite title is actually an episode in my worst 30 list. So throw out everything that happened in the episode and happy voting!

Supernatural - Song-toScene Ranking B - Poll

We only have 8 more songs to choose for our song-to-scene rankings. Tomorrow we will return to the best title contest so I can get the song-to-scene one ready. It's been more time consuming to find the videos than I expected. Best title should take 4 days and then we will jump back to song-to-scene. Sorry for the confusion but happy voting today!

Song-to-scene Contest Clarification:

At the risk of repeating myself, song-to-scene does NOT mean your favorite song. We just finished that one. It is NOT your favorite scene. We will do that contest in another hiatus. It is NOT the song you remember most. It is NOT the song that you had a gut reaction to the first time you saw the scene. In fact, the best song-to-scene may even be a song you hate in a scene you dislike. It is simply the song that best fits the particular scene it is in - lyrics and mood. If the song could be switched out for half a dozen other songs and still have had the same impact, it is NOT a good choice either. Hopefully that helps clarify what we are looking for here.

Supernatural - Song-to-Scene Ranking A - Poll

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you are having a safe and fun holiday. Thanks so much for making this past year of Supernatural polls and articles a lot of fun. I treasure SpoilerTV for the insightful, respectful community and that means you! You make being a SPN fan even more fun. Best wishes for continued fun in the new year and now back to the contests.

The favorite song contest has concluded and the winner is.....Carry on Wayward Son! Anyone shocked? I didn't think so. Not surprising that the #1 fan favorite song ever played on Supernatural is its de facto theme song. For most people this was by far the easiest contest we have done as far as choosing a winner goes. Somehow I doubt song-to-scene is going to be as easy, especially since people seem to be judging with different criteria.

So to recap, the song-to-scene is NOT your favorite song.

You can choose up to 5 scenes. This poll and the next one will determine which episodes will enter the contest and what their ranking will be from #17-32. The first 16 were already determined in the preliminary nomination round. So once again, happy voting and merry Christmas.

Supernatural - Favorite Song - Finale - Poll

We're in the final showdown and while it's not likely to be a nail biter, I do think both songs deserve to be here. Both are classic rock songs by classic bands - a tribute to what Kripke envisioned. To get to the finale Carry on Wayward Son decimated all its competition with results in the 80's and 90's. The closest race the de facto theme song of Supernatural encountered was against Highway to Hell by AC/DC where it won by 87%. It also beat Cherry Pie (96%), Knockin' on Heaven's Door (89%), and Eye of the Tiger (91%). Let's see if AC/DC's other hit, Back in Black, can do better. For it to get in, it beat Ready for Love (90%), All out of Love (77%), O Death (57%), and Renegade (52% or 10 votes).

Today we also finish the preliminary polls for the wildcard positions in song-to-scene. We will do the final polls over the next two days and then start that contest. It will run exactly like this one did. Thanks to everyone who is participating and happy voting!

Songs Still in Contest:

1. Carry On Wayward Son
3. Back in Black

Supernatural - Favorite Song - 4B - Polls

(Note: Sorry about not posting this yesterday. Life intruded and I flaked. Things should be normal from now until I go on vacation.)

Let's be honest. Today's poll will determine which songs will be #2 and #3. Neither one will win tomorrow against Carry on Wayward Son. Therefore this might be the most exciting round of the contest. They are 2 upper echelon classic songs known well to the Supernatural family, both with extra meaning for when people forget that this is not the song-to-scene contest. Should be very interesting results. Also we are winding down on the preliminary song-to-scene wildcard polls. Tomorrow we will finish all the nominees and then I'll toss the results into a final poll to see what makes it into the contest. We need to add 16 to those that have already made it in. So now that I have confused the issue even further, let's get voting. Which song will be the second favorite song of SpoilerTV fans? Happy voting!

2. Renegade

Supernatural - Favorite Song - 4A - Polls

It's the final four and Carry on Wayward Son, Eye of the Tiger, Renegade, and Back in Black remain. No real surprises. We also continue our song-to-scene wildcard polls but there are a whole lot of surprises there. One of the biggest is how many decent song-to-scene choices there are in today's poll. Best set yet. Happy voting!

Supernatural - Favorite Song - 3B - Poll

Yesterday's polls were complete opposites. Carry on Wayward Son won by 89% over Knockin' on Heaven's Door but Eye of the Tiger just snuck past Wanted Dead or Alive by 6 votes. If trends remain, it will be gone in the next round as Carry on Wayward Son decimates all its competition. Today will be the hardest voting for me because 3 of the 4 songs are in my top 5. I hope both polls are closer than they have been.

We also continue our search for the 16 song-to-scene wildcard positions. Daily reminder - this is not which song you like best or which scene you like best. It's the song that best matches the scene in lyrics and instrumentals. Again you can vote for up to 5 choices. We will have 3 more general rounds after today's and then narrow the winners down to 16 on Christmas Eve. I will however be taking Christmas off from poll creating. We should start the song-to-scene contest on December 26. Post any questions below.

Songs Still in Contest:

1. Carry On Wayward Son
2. Renegade
3. Back in Black
4. Eye of the Tiger

Supernatural - Favorite Song - 3A - Polls

Ready for round 3? Heading into this round we have Carry on Wayward Son, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Eye of the Tiger, Wanted Dead or Alive, Renegade, Don't Fear the Reaper, Back in Black, and O Death competing. I am also starting to song-t-scene qualifying polls. You can pick up to 5 in each qualifying poll. Remember these are simply the songs that were nominated (or were played in Supernatural in seasons 7 or 8 after the nominations originally closed) and are biding for the 17-32 spots. We already have the first 16 songs chosen through the original nominations. Those include Renegade, Wanted Dead or Alive, O Death, Back in Black, Don't Fear the Reaper, A Well-Respected Man, Rock of Ages, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Bad Moon Rising, Beautiful Loser, Eye of the Tiger, Heat of the Moment, Smoke on the Water, Simple Man, What a Wonderful World, and Silent Lucidity. There will be 5 qualifying polls all together and then we narrow down to 16 from the winners of these polls, similar to how we did the wildcard positions for the Ultimate Episode contest. Please leave any questions in the comment section and I will try to explain further. Thanks as always for participating in out hiatus contests and happy voting!

Supernatural - Metasodes Special - Podcast

Welcome to the hiatus podcast specials. I hope hiatus is passing well for you. This week the theme is meta. Just so you know these specials were the first podcasts Lilith and I did together, actually having been taped before season 8 began, so they may be a little rough as we were getting comfortable with the format. This one also has some big pauses in it so if you want to get to the heart of the matter, the times are below. Also while we taped the special episodes in one take, they are divided into 2 parts here because of time constraints. I can't even talk about 1 episode and keep it under an hour. In these we are talking about several episodes. First parts will go up on Sundays or Mondays while second parts should be up on Wednesdays or Thursdays. Thanks as always for listening and happy hiatus!

Disclaimer - As always the opinions on this podcast are merely Lilith and/or Dahne's opinions. They do not reflect the fandom as a whole or SpoilerTV.

Podcast Break-Down (All times are estimated):

Intro -
Hollywood Babylon - 8:35
The Monster at the End of This Book - 25:07 (there are pauses toward the end of this section around the 40 minute mark)

Supernatural - Favorite Song - 2B - Polls

No tough polls in the last set. Everything was pretty much a blowout. Heading into round three are Carry on Wayward Son (87%), Knockin' on Heaven's Door (71%), Eye of the Tiger (65%), Wanted Dead or Alive (76%). They will be joined by the winners of this poll set to make the final 8.

Attached is the nomination form for the song-to-scene contest. You do NOT need to nominate Renegade, Wanted Dead or Alive, O Death, Back in Black, Don't Fear the Reaper, A Well-Respected Man, Rock of Ages, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Bad Moon Rising, Beautiful Loser, Eye of the Tiger, Heat of the Moment, Smoke on the Water, Simple Man, What a Wonderful World, or Silent Lucidity because they are already in the contest. Remember this is not your favorite scenes which happened to be playing a particular song but a song that particularly captures the essence of that scene through the lyrics and tone. If any song could be playing, it doesn't fit the criteria for this contest.

Songs Still in Contest:

1. Carry On Wayward Son
2. Renegade

Supernatural - Favorite Song - 2A - Polls

Welcome to round 2 of the favorite song poll. Just a reminder this is just what it says it is - favorite song. It has nothing to do with how that song was used in Supernatural. The song-to-scene poll will come up next and that's when it counts how it was used. Speaking of song-to-scene, I have decided to expand the contest from 16 entries to 32. That means we need help figuring out what those other songs will be. Songs currently in the contest include: Renegade, Wanted Dead or Alive, O Death, Back in Black, Don't Fear the Reaper, A Well-Respected Man, Rock of Ages, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Bad Moon Rising, Beautiful Loser, Eye of the Tiger, Heat of the Moment, Smoke on the Water, Simple Man, What a Wonderful World, and Silent Lucidity.

My plan is to put all other nominated songs plus any new songs into polls and determine the rest of the contestants that way. I'm including the nomination form below so feel free to add songs you think should be in. Just make sure you put what episode you are nominating the song for since some songs have been used more than once. If it doesn't have an episode, it won't be counted. Remember also the idea of song-to-scene is how well the song matches what was going on in the scene, both mood and lyrics, which knocks out Carry on Wayward Son since it has only been played in the previouslies. In my opinion it should knock out Eye of the Tiger too since the reason people like it is because of the outtake which is not a part of the plot. For it to be a good song-to-scene nomination, the song should not be easily replaceable with other songs. Nominations will close on Tuesday.

Now that future business is taken care of, let's look at the songs remaining in round 2. Things were far closer in the last set. The winning songs were Back in Black (90% - this one was obviously not close), All Out of Love (52% - winning by a mere 6 votes), Bad Company (56%), and O Death (68%). They join Carry On Wayward Son, Highway to Hell, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Rock of Ages, Eye of the Tiger, Bad Moon Rising, Hell's Bells, Wanted Dead or Alive, Renegade, You Shook Me All Night Long, Heat of the Moment, and Don't Fear the Reaper in round 2. Things should start getting a little harder to vote now unless like me you only like about half the songs. Then it's easier.

Songs Still in Contest:

1. Carry On Wayward Son
2. Renegade
3. Back in Black
4. Eye of the Tiger
5. Wanted Dead or Alive
6. O Death

Supernatural - Favorite Song - 1D - Poll

While no polls were close, the last set were closer than the first two which should make things interesting in the next rounds. Episodes moving on to round 2 are Renegade (66%), You Shook Me All Night Long (60%), Heat of the Moment (57%), and Don't Fear the Reaper (80%). Today we have no bands going against themselves but we do have the battle of the power ballad. Funny how the rankings ended up. Today will be the last set of polls in round 1 so expect things to get a little harder as we progress to round 2. I would at least expect that most of the polls will be closer. Don't forget to put your suggestions for future polls in our nomination form and of course happy voting!

Royal Pains - 4.15 - Off-Season Greetings - Preview

Off-Season Greetings airs Sunday night at 9/8 C on USA Network.

Sleigh bells ring o'er the Hamptons.
MacGyver cures and wedding plannin'.
Divya's a mess,
There's returning guests,
And Evan and Paige are couple paragons.

It's been 3 months since the events of the midseason finale and things are coming together for Evan and Paige's wedding, thanks to Evan's Groomzilla routine. Marissa's lawyer assures Hank that they can remain in the guest house but Hank has lingering issues over the explosion and seems to suffer a panic attack while visiting the scene of the crime. Meanwhile Divya is not over Rafa - AT ALL - which leads her to make some shocking choices. In many ways, Off-Season Greetings reminds me of a 25 Days of Christmas movie and I mean that in the very best way. Even a cold-hearted grump like myself can get swept up in the awww-worthy moments and I dare you to listen to Paige's speech without your heart growing 3 sizes. Add to that plenty of twists and you've got a finely paced episode that fits the season.

I went into this episode spoiler-free so the biggest surprise to me was the many flashbacks. A good portion of the episode is devoted to the time right before Hank's wedding got called off told from both brothers' viewpoints. It demonstrates the tension between the brothers back then, highlighting how much closer they are now. That's a change I can really get behind. Family and tradition are the underlying themes of the episode. So is making up for past mistakes. Two new characters, Winnie and Owen, help drive those themes home and both are good additions. A few previous characters pop up too including Jill and Ken with his new girlfriend Barbie. There's also a slight retcon to why the brothers came to the Hamptons to begin with that ties to the previous episode.

In typical Royal Pains fashion there are several medical mysteries, including a final surprise patient, and Hank uses his MacGyver skills within the first 5 minutes. What that man can do with Christmas lights and a candy cane! Hank Med should publish a book on how to use household items to create your own miracles. It would be far superior to Eddie's new book, which he tries to hawk throughout the episode. Meanwhile Evan and Paige make every other couple in America look like lazy, uncommunicative, unsupportive louses. Have they even spoken a cross word to each other in the last 1.5 years? Their relationship is particularly touching in this episode and provides much of the heart. As things steadily come apart for the wedding due to a heavy winter storm, they get closer through the power of positive thinking.

Off-Season Greetings airs Sunday night at 9/8 C on USA Network.

Supernatural - Favorite Song - 1B - Polls

Our favorite song polls have been completed, perhaps to no surprises. Carry on Wayward Son decimated its competition Cherry Pie by a whopping 96%, proving it is the forerunner if anyone had doubts. Highway to Hell also clobbered its competition, In-a-Gadda-da-Vida, with 87% of the votes. This was more surprising considering they ranked #16 and #17 in the nominations. I foretell some AC/DC love. Knockin' on Heaven's Door also got lots of love with an 88& victory over Rooster, while Rock of Ages beat One Way or Another by 63% - the closest contest so far. Today's polls should be interesting in that they cover a wider range of music. Perhaps things won't be such a blowout this time. Well at least one of them will be. Happy voting!

Below is a list of all the shows in the competition. If you click on the song title, it should lead you to a YouTube video of the song with lyrics. If you see one that no longer works, please let me know in the comments below. Carry on Wayward Son is now fixed. Also, I added the nomination form for other polls. If you have a poll idea you would like to see in the future, please nominate it. I will not do any contest that promotes brother wars or shipping, but other than that.....

Finally, everyone needs to get their episode rankings done so we can start in January. Yes, that includes those pesky middle ones which are almost impossible to rank. The more people who participate, the more fun it will be. So grab those DVDs and join me for a Supernatural hiatus marathon. 150 episodes by January 1. Come on. It'll be fun!

Supernatural - 8.09 - Citizen Fang - Quotes

The midseason finale is over and we head into hiatus until Jan. 16. Before brother wars and fandom fights get us too far down, let's look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of Citizen Fang's quotes. There is a lot of each. All in all I liked this episode better than many fans it seems. Plenty of action and high points. The right person got killed off. And hey, what's a Supernatural hiatus without contentious actions on both brothers' parts? The PTB couldn't leave us content for 5 whole weeks, now could they? What would we talk about?

Speaking of hiatus, we will begin our annual hiatus polls either next week or the week after. We will start with favorite songs and then go to favorite song to scene. We'll also be starting our ranking list articles in January. So if you haven't firmed up how you rank the first 150 episodes, get to it. The idea is to showcase 10 episodes each day in January up to the midseason premiere. So basically it will be a full hiatus - just the way I like it - and hopefully time will pass quickly. Until next week, enjoy your hiatus. Don't forget to nominate your favorite quotes from this episode first though.

Funny/Snarky quotes:

6. Desmond: "Benny never told me he was bringing a friend." Dean: "You're not going to talk a lot are ya? I have been dealing with crazy all day."
5. Dean: "You put Mostly Okay Martin on Benny. What is Mostly Okay doing hunting at all?"
4. Dean: "So what's the plan? I hang back while you guys do some trust falls and binge drinking." Benny: "Man if I didn't know you better, I'd say you have an extremely low opinion of us vamps." Dean: "Call it healthy skepticism."
3. Dean: "Son of a….It took you long enough." Benny: "You've lost a step friend. You need to lay off the junk food."
2. Benny: "I know it's hard to believe but I haven't always been this cute and cuddly."
1. Dean: "Martin, you sure you're running on a full charge?" Martin: "Huhh. Yeah, yeah. A…a little…..little shock therapy in the morning and I…I…I'm good to go."

Mytharc/Story-moving quotes:

10. Benny: " No amateur is going to kick me out of my hometown Dean. Not this time."
9. Benny: "It's okay Lizzie. He ain't gonna hurt you. Ain't that right? Come on now. I've got no beef with you. You've got no beef with me." Martin: "I've got plenty of beef with your kind." Benny: "Alright that may be so but not for anything that happened here. I did not kill those people." Martin: "I heard. You and Dean had a little Purgatory reunion. Touching."
8. Dean: "Look until we get the facts, we stow the bloodlust and we work this case right or we work it separately." Martin: "Well doing it right would be separating his head from his shoulders."
7. Dean: "I've got a body here in Carencrou with 2 holes in it and I just found out you went fishing. Do I need to tell you what this looks like?"
6. Sam: "Listen Dean, we came here on a dead body. You asked for some time and now there's another dead body. Sam: "Are we just going on trust here?" Dean: "Yes."
5. Benny: "Dean, this is my fight. Are you in or are you out?"
4. Benny: "No offense Dean but your little brother does not exactly put chills up my spine." Dean: "Benny listen to me. Do not underestimate my little brother okay. He can and will kill you given the chance."
3. Dean: "You know there's only one way to do that right? And that is for you to sit on the sideline while I convince Sam and Martin to go after Desmond. They see you out there, they don't care if you're going to be collecting for the March of Dimes. They are going to slice first and ask questions later. You know that." Benny: "You really think they'll go for that?"
2. Dean: "All I'm saying is that Benny is innocent." Sam: "No. You're too close to this." Dean: "You're not going to find him and if you do, I'm going to tell you this. You'll be lucky to get out alive and you….you go with him, you're a dead man. Period."
1. Dean: "Handle on things? Benny, you've got 2 stiffs on your hands and two hunters on your a**." Benny: "Oh please. Your halfwit found me at the café. I'll take my chances with him…." Dean: "That halfwit was sent by my brother and trust me, my brother is not someone you want to mess with."

Emotional quotes:

10. Benny: "My life here is over isn't it?"
9. Benny: "You got me here now. Why don’t you just let her go and walk away?" Martin: "I don't think so." Benny: "You realize I'm not asking."
8. Benny: "Born and bred. With Andrea gone and you hunting again, it seemed the right time for a homecoming. You two being the only ones who keep all my ducks in a row. Went back to my old job at the café. Even found myself someone to hold myself accountable to. Best kind of someone Dean. Family." Dean: "Elizabeth." Benny: "My great-granddaughter."
7. Don: "Sam, let me finish. I know part of her loves me and now part of her loves you, but the only one that knows what's best for Amelia is Amelia so when all of this is said and done and she's made her decision, I'll respect it. And if you truly love her, you'd do the same."
6. Dean: "Nobody's arguing but if this is Benny, and that's a big if…" Martin: "Oh it's him." Dean: "I've got history with the guy okay. I'm not signing up for a witch hunt. I owe him more than that."
5. Benny: "Please. I'm asking you. Do not do this. The bad guy is gone, okay?"
4. Martin: "And what if it turns out to be Benny?" Dean: "Then it's Benny and I'll deal with it."
3. Benny: " It's been tough walking the line here after all those years in Purgatory not having to deal with the hunger. But Elizabeth, she keeps me honest. I finally feel like I've got a handle on this thing."
2. Dean: "Time to go buddy." Benny: "Thanks for not giving up on me brother." Dean: "Don't give me a reason to."
1. Sam: "These are innocent lives we're talking about Dean and you're willing to risk that on Benny's word alone." Dean: "Damn right I am."

Oh Kill Me Now quotes (Worst Lines of the Night):

5. Sam: "He's your husband Amelia. But I…I don't…I don't want to do the right thing. I mean this is the right thing, you and me. And maybe I'm going to hell for saying this but I'm not ready to give this up."
4. Sam: "So? Is it done?" Dean: "Yeah it's done." Sam: "Any casualties?" Dean: "Martin." Sam: "Was it Benny?" Dean: "He had it coming Sam. I'll tell you what happened?" Sam: "I…I know what happened Dean." Dean: "Okay you want to listen to me or not?" (Sam hangs up.) Dean: "Damn it."
3. Sam: "I know that you and Don deserve a chance okay and I think you know that too. Just give him a chance like you gave me. I mean Amelia you saved me."
2. Dean: "Guys like us, we don't get a home. You know we don't get family."
1. Sam: "Okay because we've killed for a lot less and you know how these things turn out for us." Dean: "Yes I do. Too well. In fact every relationship I've ever had has gone to cr** at some point, but the one thing I can say about Benny, he has never let me down." Sam: "Well good on you Dean. It must feel great finally finding someone you can trust after all these years."

Special Quote Awards:

Eye-Rollingly Bad dialogue:

Martin: "Lay down your arms you unholy thing."
Martin: "Isn't it obvious? I want your head on a stake."
-Is this a bad black and white Dracula movie? The only person who could have pulled off this dialogue was Shapeshifter Dracula from Monster Movie. Then I would have laughed as I rolled my eyes.

Say What? quotes:

1. Sam: "Oh really Dean, you don't believe that because Benny's a vampire and any hunter worth his salt isn't going to let one just walk around freely. So I had Martin keep tabs on him and right now it's looking like I made the right call."
-Since when? You guys have let a lot of "monsters" go in the past without keeping tabs on them. Lenore and Eli (who looks a lot like Benny) were only the first ones.

2. Benny: "Victim #2. If you're concerned about the missed calls, I didn't want to get you involved. Now, want to safety that thing….talk a little bit or what?"
-Seriously Benny, do you even know Dean? It's not like he would leave because you were avoiding him.

Finally the Mature Brothers Jeremy Carver Spoke of (for about 5 minutes):

1. Dean: "So Martin's saying Benny did this." Sam: "Yeah." Dean: "Okay." Sam: "Okay?" Dean: "If Benny's in Louisiana draining folks, we should look into it."
2. Dean: "I just need some time Sammy." Martin: "Oh yeah, let the fang take another life? I don't think so." Sam: "How much time do you need?" Martin: "You're not actually considering this?" Dean: "A couple hours tops."
-I shouted Hallelujah the first time I saw the opening brother scene. Both of them were logical. Dean listened to what Sam said. They went to check it out together instead of behind the other's back. Woo hoo! Then Sam listened to Dean and gave him time to get the facts instead of just reacting. Again, woo hoo! Too bad they reverted back to form not 10 minutes later.

Worst Excuse for a Cliffhanger:

Amelia: "I knew that was you."

The Crazy Man Sums Up Season 8:
Martin: "Winchesters! Man!"
-I hear you Martin. I've been saying this every time the writers make another asinine character choice.

Review:

Currently Citizen Fang ranks as the second best episode of season 8 for me, but given how this season is going that is not saying much. After such promising opening brother scenes, the characterizations became a complete mess with each brother coming off as stupid or douchey several times in the episode. After that ending, I almost wish Cas would NOT bring the brothers back together next episode. Thanks Loflin. Until further notice, I am concluding that you are the one who hates Dean and Sam while Dabb is the anvil dropper. Still, if I separate the bad brother writing out there is a lot to like about this episode. Good action tops the list and the directing really worked for me. The new director tried a variety of unique shots which gave the episode a distinctive feel. I also enjoyed the pacing. The tension remained throughout which kept me laser-focused on the plot, something that used to be a given and now is not. In short, the episode was entertaining if not awesome.

Normally I carp about secondary characters taking attention away from Dean and Sam but in this case they saved the episode for me. Martin was so repugnant to me that I was rooting for his death from almost the opening scene. Benny was the sympathetic heart and I have to say I've felt more for him this season than anyone else, including Dean and Sam. That in itself is a heartbreaker. Pretty sad when a vampire's travails is the family-centered storyline instead of the brothers. I thought the actress who played Elizabeth was as excellent here as she was as Katie the Changeling's mom in The Kids are Alright. The scene with Benny, Martin, and Elizabeth was terrific. In fact, most scenes where the brothers were separated were pretty good. I even found myself liking Don, who out of everyone we've met in the Amelia subplot is the most sympathetic. Now if only I could say the same thing about Dean and Sam.
