Quote of the Week - Week of July 24
A weekly feature highlighting the best quotes on TV as picked by the Spoiler TV team. We'd love to hear your picks too so please sound off in the comments below.
Braindead -
1. Gustav: "The only way to know if he’s clean is to give him a cat-scan and we know bug people don’t want that. And...uh, here are some brass knuckles too." (Prpleight)
Mr. Robot -
1. Darlene: “Jesus, I don’t normally say this, but I have got to Instagram this. People need to know this movie exists.” (Nirat Anop)
2. Elliot: “If I do close my eyes, what is it do I picture years from now? Like Leon said, 'Doesn’t one need to understand that before they’re ready fight for their existence?’ How would my future fairytale unfold? Will I finally connect with the one I deeply care for? Will I reunite with friends long gone? See the ones I love find true happiness. Maybe this future includes people I’d never dreamed of getting close to. Even make amends with those I have unfairly wronged. A future that’s not so lonely. A future filled with friends and family. You’d even be there. The world I’ve always wanted, and you know what? I’d like very much to fight for it.” (Nirat Anop)
3. Elliot: “Krista’s wrong. Annihilation is always the answer. We destroy parts of ourselves every day. We Photoshop our warts away. We edit the parts we hate about ourselves, modify the parts we think people hate. We curate our identity, carve it, distill it. Krista’s wrong. Annihilation is all we are.” (Nirat Anop)
Suits -
1. Mike (about Gallo being an informant): "Oh, that's great. So he's not going anywhere, and neither am I unless it's in a goddamn body bag!" (Laura Markus)
2. Harvey: "Look, there's only one other thing I can think of, but you'll have to play it just right or we're gonna make things worse." Mike: "Well, you might as well say it, because from where I'm standing, they are gonna get worse whether you tell me or not." (Laura Markus)
3. Donna: "Harvey, if you go to that prison now, you'll never make it back in time for your dinner with Nathan." Harvey: "Donna, I don't care what you have to do. Get him a message that I'll be an hour late, and make sure he says it's okay." Donna: "Harvey-" Harvey: "Take care of it. I'm not leaving Mike alone in there another minute without knowing what's coming." (Laura Markus)
4. Rachel: "One of my classmates stuck [Mike] in my face in front of the entire class to win an argument." Jessica: "And the only thing you want to stick in her face is your fist?" Rachel: "Something like that. So the professor offered me an Innocence Project case, and I want to take it, but if I do-" Jessica: "The other students will think you're afraid of her." Rachel: "Exactly." Jessica: "Then you have to make all of them afraid of you. Then the only impression they'll have of you is that you're one badass woman." Rachel: "Why do I get the feeling that when you were in law school you went through something just like this?" Jessica: "Rachel, I don't know if you've been paying attention, but I go through something like this every damn day." (Laura Markus)

2016 Character Cup - Final Four
Note 2 - We will be taking a short break once these polls close. Voting will resume on Sunday or Monday. Thanks for your patience.
Note 1 - Once the poll software took out multiple votes from round 3, yet another poll has to be re-done. This time it will be Laurel Lance vs. Buffy Summers. I apologize to everyone who is following the rules, AGAIN. It would be fan-freaking-tastic if people would only vote once per poll. I really don't want to still be voting on this contest in August. I appreciate your help in this.
It's Final Four time for the 2016 Character Cup and for the first time ever, all the characters still standing are female, guaranteeing a second female champion. Congratulations to all Shaw, Kara, Lexa, and Buffy fans. It should be a great race to the finish. Please remember to encourage your fandoms to play honestly and to get the word out. Over in our Favorite Villains side, the final 4 contestants are all male, balancing things out a bit. Don't forget to vote for your favorites there too. A huge thanks to Rendy for creating the following image for our contest. Awesome, isn't it? Sorry I couldn't get it posted before when all these characters were still in it. Tech glitches, urgh. I hope you guys urge Rendy to enter the banner contest, which is open until August 1 for anyone interested, and don't forget to check out his blog. Until tomorrow, hit the comments section to talk about your TV pet peeves and happy voting!
Prediction Contest - Today we add a new person in contention for the prediction contest. Kirov continues to lead with 78 points but Good Samaritan moves to second with 72 points. Suzana and Paola continue to be tied for 3rd with 71 points. Nice job predicting!
Wish List Contest - Our wish list contest remains mostly unchanged with Silver and RN tied at 56 points, while Irem has 43 and Emma has 37. Congrats!

Today's TV Talk Topic: TV Pet Peeves
Today it's all about TV pet peeves. What irks you about TV these days? Is there a TV trope you hate? Are there things certain genres do that drive you up a wall? Is there anything that has become so clichéd that you groan even thinking about it? Is there a character type that just drives you batty? Feel free to vent away. Hopefully we'll all feel better afterwards.

2016 Character Cup - Round 4
Wow! Those were some close races. Sharon Raydor defeated Laurel Lance by 1 vote and Jon Snow overtook Alec Lightwood by 5 votes. Things are heating up in the 2016 Character Cup now. Because things were so close, the debut of the Favorite Villain mini-contest will start about 30 minutes later to allow me to adjust for the shows that are still being represented in the main contest. Polls for it will show up directly below these polls once I get it posted. The mini-contest will follow the same rules and procedures as the regular Character Cup. If you have any questions about that, let me know in the comments below. Thanks to everyone who is following the rules and only voting once per poll. Until tomorrow, don't forget to comment on the TV Talk Topic and happy voting!
NOTE - Favorite Villain Contest now added!
Prediction Contest - Kirov continues to lead with 66 points. Awesome! Suzana and Paola are tied for second with 63 points, and Emma comes in at 62 points. Nicely done, guys!
Wish List Contest - Silver and RN continue to top the wish list contest with 52 and 48 points respectively. Irem joins the top with 39 points. Congrats to you all!

Today's TV Talk Topic: Female Roles
For the last few years, the 2016 Character Cup has been represented by more and more females. This time we started with 33 female characters to 29 male characters. This is also the first time that we've ever only had 1 male character make it to the Elite 8 and he has only faced male characters so far.
How do you feel TV is doing at portraying females these days? Which characters best show growth in these portrayals? Are there any areas in which Hollywood could improve (Ex. sister relationships, stay at home moms, etc.)? Are there any stereotypes about women that still need to be broken? How has the increase in a more female focus changed or not changed how men are portrayed?
Favorite Villain Mini-Contest
Last year so many people had all their favorite characters out of the polls by this time that we added a special mini-contest on TV Vehicles just to make it more fun. It was a hit so we're continuing the tradition and it starts today. Over 150 nominations were whittled down to just 8. Rules work the same as the Character Cup contest with the winner moving to the next round. Enjoy and happy voting!

2016 Character Cup - Round 3A
Welcome back to round 3 of the 2016 Character Cup. We've made it to the Sweet 16. Woo hoo! Hopefully you still have characters to vote for. If not, don't worry because the mini-contest on Favorite Villain starts tomorrow. Please have your nominations in by 9 am CST if you would like them to be included in the tally. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below. Until tomorrow, play nice and happy voting!
Prediction Contest - Taking the lead this time is Kirov with a score of 51. Fantastic! In second is SpoilerTV's own Bradley Adams with 49 points, while Maria Sol has 48. You guys are doing great!
Wish List Contest - Over in the wish list contest, the standings are still the same with Silver in first with 46, RN in second with 39, and Maria Sol in third with 32. I'm jealous.

Along with the rise of cable TV, there has been a rise in international (read non-American) TV. What are your favorite international shows? Are there any countries whose TV you particularly like?

2016 Character Cup - Round 2C
Note #1 -If you already read this in Round 2B, skip to the polls. It's the exact same thing.
Note #2 - Today's polls will be split into 2 posts for labeling purposes. The first one is already posted. See the link below. Please check both out so you don't miss voting for anyone. The TV Talk Topic of the day will remain the same for both. Questions? Hit the comments below.
Welcome back to the 2016 Character Cup. I am sorry that the 2B polls were delayed but last night I was going through the poll stats and noticed several voting discrepancies in one poll. I then checked all the polls and found suspicious voting on a couple of others. Unbeknownst to me, the polling software was also tracking suspicious activity in all 3 days of the Cup so far. When I woke up, they had already taken out several of the cheating votes and as a result the outcomes of 2 polls have changed. Vanessa Ives and Alicia Clark have actually lost their first rounds, but while Sameen Shaw had over 1,000 votes discounted, she still won her round. Unfortunately, this poll has to be run again anyway because it should have been between Shaw and Scully instead of Shaw and Ives.
I apologize to everyone in ALL fandoms who voted legitimately. The majority of all people voting do respect the rules and run a clean contest. Sadly, it only takes a couple of people to ruin the fun for everyone. It's a shame because not only do they look bad but they make their show and their fandom look bad too. That's not fair because most people in any given fandom are awesome. If you do happen to come across someone encouraging people to cheat, please either ask them to stop or let me know. I would certainly hope this would not happen again and the rest of the Character Cup would proceed smoothly, but I cannot guarantee it. If you notice a discrepancy in the scores from what I post, please let me know. This may (or may not) be what happened in the Episode Competition too when another poll had to be re-run. Just know that we are doing our best to make sure every poll is accurate.
Mini-Contest - Now that that unpleasantness is covered, let's move to more positive things. Nominations for the Favorite Villain mini-contest open today for about 36-48 hours. This will give me time to tabulate the nominations and get the contest ready to go for round 4. Please remember that villains from the remaining 8 shows still represented in the Character Cup in round 4 will not be eligible for the mini-contest. Its purpose is to engage fandoms that are no longer represented. You can name up to 3 favorite villains but only one per show. If you have any questions, please hit the comments below.
Prediction Contest - MariaSol moves to the lead in our prediction contest with 38 points. Great job! In second is Pixip with 36 points and tied with 35 points are Madeline, Kirov, and Saoirse. Nice work, everyone.
Wish List Contest - Currently Silver should be the happiest with how things are going with a score of 34 points. RN has 31, while MariSol has 30 points. Glad things are going your way.

Today's TV Talk Topic: TV Wish Lists
A magic genie grants you 5 wishes (or a long-lost billionaire relative buys you your own network for those less into fantasy) to do anything you want in TV, providing it falls within FCC standards (so no porn). Standard Aladdin rules apply - no wishing for more wishes, no resurrecting the dead (unless it fits within the genre or you can find a plausible explanation), and no making someone fall in love with you. So what do you wish for? If you want, you can make 2 wish lists: one pure fantasy and another more realistic.

2016 Character Cup - Round 2A
The first round is about finished and wow, was that brutal. Of the top 5 characters last year, 2 aren't in the contest and the other 3 got out in round 1. Jamie Fraser, last year's #5, lost by one vote. I have a feeling this year's contest is going to be very interesting. If you would like more stats on the Cup so far, please click the link below. There are also links to the rules and each of the rounds so far. You still have about 5 minutes to cast your vote for round 1D if you haven't yet. Polls have been very close there too. From now on, no rounds will overlap so you can expect new polls to go up approximately 15-30 minutes after the previous polls close. Polls last for about 24 hours. Happy voting!
Prediction Contest (including rounds 1A and 1B) - With the left side of the bracket complete, Isaac is in first place with 13 out of 16 correct. Nice job! Tied in second place with 12 correct are JB and MariaSol. 13 people got 11 out of 16 right, none of which were me. My brackets are already a mess. How are you doing?
Wish List Contest - Both Silver and MariaSol should be pretty happy since 11 of the 16 polls went their way. 10 went Emma's way, while Amber and Dahne had 9.
Mini-Contest - Last year we added a mini-contest on favorite TV vehicles when there were 8 characters left in order to keep more people interested once their favorites were out. This year we are going to do Favorite Villains. Shows with characters still in the contest at round 4 are NOT eligible. Nominations will be posted in tomorrow's polls.

Hollywood's Dedication to Recycling
Hollywood's Dedication to Recycling
Reboots, remakes, un-cancellations, bringing back long-cancelled shows, Americanizing other countries' shows - whatever you want to call it, Hollywood is fascinated with recycling shows, movies, comics, characters, and plot lines these days. How do you feel about these old ideas made new? Which of these shows have you really enjoyed? Which would have been better left to history? Which of the new crop are you looking forward to...or not? How do you feel about shows like 24, Heroes, Full House, Boy Meets World, Gilmore Girls, The X-Files, Twin Peaks, Prison Break, etc. coming back after long absences with the same actors? Which past shows would you like to be remade? Which shows do you hope are never remade?

2016 Character Cup - Rules
2016 Character Cup Rules:
1. This is a Silly Internet Contest, Not the Fate of the Nations - This contest is meaningless. The results are meaningless. No one involved in TV cares about who wins. It will NOT change the fate of any TV show anywhere. Don't take it seriously. Have fun. Discuss a lot.
2. Focus on Characters, Not People - Anyone can vote however they want for whatever reason they want and anyone can give their opinion on a character, favorable or not. Talking negatively about a character is NOT the same as attacking their fans. Keep the conversation to the characters. If you don't like what someone says about your character, comment on what you love about them. You might get new people to try your show. It's simple but worth repeating. Characters are NOT real. People are.
3. The Aliens Haven't Landed. There's No Conspiracy Here - I have no hidden agenda. Everything except people playing two characters is placed in brackets based on the number of nominations and polls. If your character goes against a giant, it's not personal. Mine will too. If I spell your character's name wrong, again it's not personal. It's just that I'm a sucky typist or sleep-deprived. Tell me; I'll fix it.
4. Leave Sour Grapes on the Vine - Yeah, it sucks when your favorite didn't make it or gets kicked off by a character you hate. Yep, the winning character will come from the most organized fandom that gets the word out the fastest. Them's the facts of life and internet polls. It doesn't mean we can't still have fun. Don't dwell on past polls or vetch about life's unfairness and it will be more enjoyable for everyone.
5. It's Not 2048 and My Name's Not Dorian - I will do my very best to keep the contest running smoothly and let you know the approximate time each poll ends. However, I am human and occasionally do silly things like get the time zone changes wrong. Again see #3. Let me know and I'll fix it. I apologize in advance for any technical difficulties.
6. Comments are the Wellspring of Hiatus Life - Most of us anxiously await the return of our favorite shows. Why not distract yourself with a little TV Talk? Each day we have a new topic. Come join us because even if you have no one to vote for in the polls, you can still discuss. While this contest is just a silly piece of internet fluff, the conversation here goes deep so jump on in.
Nuts and Bolts:
1. All polls, even the final one, will be about 24 hours long. A new poll goes up every day unless something unforeseen happens so you always know when your favorites compete. Due to our time crunch, the first round polls will be a little different and overlap each other. Please see the note in the first paragraph for details.
2. Everything is head-to-head competition unless there's a tie and then both go to the next round.
3. One vote per person per poll. Please do not try to cheat the polls. Please do not encourage other people to try to cheat the polls. It's annoying, stupid, and wastes everyone's time. It makes you look bad. It makes your fandom look bad. It makes your character look bad. It makes your show look bad. It makes all internet polls look bad. Just don't.

2016 Character Cup - Round 1D
Note: If you already went to Round 1C, this contains the same information so feel free to mosey on down to the polls. :-)
Today we are off to the right side brackets, but don't worry. If you didn't vote in the left side brackets, there is still time. You can find the links to them below. Those close at 8 pm CST. Please remember that there are 2 different set of polls so make sure you vote in both. Like yesterday, today's polls will also be split into two with the first one already posted. We also have 2 TV Talk Topics as well. Thanks to everyone who has commented so far. I've really enjoyed hearing how your TV year went and your thoughts on the characters in the contest. Below you'll find the link to the brackets and contest rules. If you haven't read the rules yet, please do so. We want everyone to have a great contest. As always, if you have any questions, leave them in the comments along with who you voted for and your thoughts on the TV Talk Topic. Thanks for a great start to the Character Cup and happy voting!

Today's TV Talk Topic:
***Thanks to Ceryle for helping to create this topic.
Which longer-running shows have you thought were creatively bankrupt but then surprised you by turning things around? Have you ever been close to giving up a show but then they did something to renew your interest? What shows were unappealing at first (poor pilot, bad first season, whatever) but later were awesome. Have you ever grown to love a show that at first you didn't like at all? Did the show get its act together or did you just acquire a taste for it? Should networks take this into account when making renew/cancel decisions?

2016 Character Cup - Round 1C
Today we are off to the right side brackets, but don't worry. If you didn't vote in the left side brackets, there is still time. You can find the links to them below. Those close at 8 pm CST. Please remember that there are 2 different set of polls so make sure you vote in both. Like yesterday, today's polls will also be split into two with the second one posted 10 minutes after these.

2015 Character Cup Rules:
4. Leave Sour Grapes on the Vine (aka the most violated rule) - Yeah, it sucks when your favorite didn't make it or gets kicked off by a character you hate.
Just don't.
Today's TV Talk Topic:
What show/character did you initially not think you would like but were pleasantly surprised when you actually watched it? Is there any character that you could not stand at first but who grew on you over time? What changed your opinion?
