2016 Character Cup - Final Round

After a few stops and starts, we have made it to the finals of the 2016 Character Cup. Congratulations to the Person of Interest and Arrow fandoms for reaching the final round and a big thanks to everyone who has participated in the TV Talk Topics. It's been a great time discussing TV with you. Included in this round are also the polls for 3rd and 4th place in both the Character Cup and Favorite Villain Contest. Please don't get confused because these are merely for sake of placement and does not mean that the winners continue to another round. All polls remain open for 24 hours like always and I will officially announce the winner on Monday. A big thank you to everyone who played by the rules in this contest and who helped make the discussion great. You are the best part of the Character Cup. Good luck to all and until Monday, don't forget to add your thoughts on the TV Talk Topic. Happy voting!

Note - Before we end, I need to say a huge thank you to Richard Murray, who provided many of the photos for the latter rounds of the Character Cup this year. I really appreciate how much time he took making sure the pictures would work by cropping and clearing up the pictures. Thanks to everyone who helped with the pictures because it made my job so much easier.

Prediction Contest - Going into the final round, Good Samaritan moves to first place with a score of 80 points, while Terminus rejoins the leader board in second with 77 points. Kirov is right behind them with 76 points. Very impressive for all!

Wish List Contest - Our wish list contest still sees Silver and RN in the lead with Silver at 73 points and PN at 67 points. Emma moves into third with 42 points. Congrats about your favorites going far!

Today's TV Talk Topic: Character Storylines

First off, a big thank you to everyone who suggested a TV Talk Topic. We had so many great ideas that I have a good start on next year's topics too. Of all the topics that came out, one of them really made me think and so it becomes our last TV Talk Topic of the Cup. Thanks so much to Angela for the initial suggestion. It sparked a whole lot of discussion potential for me, so much that there's a Part A and a Part B now.

Part A - Think about 1-3 characters you really like that are still on a TV show that will air sometime next season. (No dead characters or shows that have ended please.) What storylines would you like to see those characters have in the upcoming season? Which other characters should they interact with more and why? Is there an aspect of their personality/background/life that you would like to see explored more? Are there other skills that the character should develop or be allowed to use more often?

Part B - Herein lies the brilliance of the topic because it forces us all to go beyond our own prejudices about a character. Think about 1-3 characters you dislike the most of all shows that will air next season. What storylines could possibly change your mind about that character and make you either like them or at least tolerate them more? You cannot kill them off, have them leave the show, isolate them like putting them in a coma, or drastically reduce their screen time. That would be too easy. What other characters should they interact with that could make them more tolerable? If they need one, would a redemption arc help or hurt them? What positive/interesting character traits do they have that could be focused on more to make them more palatable to you?
